More about Sharon Saunders’ Dancers:
Sharon Saunders commenced classes in Marong in 1992 and expanded shortly thereafter to Kangaroo Flat. In 1999, Sharon Saunders’ Dancers further expanded to a Purpose Built Dance Studio in the heart of Kangaroo Flat. The dancers study ‘The Australian Theatrical Dance (inc)’ syllabus and most students enter exams, but the emphasis is on enjoyment. True enjoyment brings out the best in young talent and this year the school received 100% pass rate in exams once again. Students are also eligible to receive scholarships.
There are no eisteddfods, only an ‘Awards Day’ for those who wish to perform. Students who have qualified through exams are given the opportunity to perform solos and performance exams. New routines are learnt each year by all classes.
Fairy Ballet classes have continued this year for 2-5 year olds. The children love these classes with Emma Brown and the parents love it because they don’t need to buy any dancewear. Pre-schoolers’ classes are also popular for children 3-5 years, they are held during school hours. After school classes are held throughout the week. Styles taught are Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Stretch/conditioning & Musical Theatre. All costumes are supplied & hired at a minimal cost.
Enrolments for 2014 classes are now being taken. Full details on our website.
Teachers: Sharon Saunders, Kellie Jackson, Stephanie Riley, Emma Brown & Erin Fischer.
The Dance studio is well equipped with air conditioning, full length mirrors & barres. It is located at the rear of 14 Lockwood Rd, Kangaroo Flat (enter via Carpenter St. car park). Studio entrance is adjacent to Champions IGA Kangaroo Flat.
|Bendigo Symphony Orchestra|
The Bendigo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rohan Phillips, conclude their 2013 season with “American Visions”.
This programme begins with Aaron Copland’s music for the 1944 Ballet, “Appalachian Spring”. Set in Pennsylvania in the 19th century, this ballet depicts the building of a farmhouse for a newly married pioneer couple. The music features a variety of moods and concludes with variations on the Shaker tune ‘simple gifts’.
Dvorak’s 9th Symphony, the New World Symphony, is one of the most popular of all symphonies and was composed when Dvorak was living in America in 1893. In it Dvorak created a work that we think of as being quintessentially American (with the popular slow movement tune subsequently arranged as the spiritual “goin’ home”) yet still resonates with the music of Dvorak’s Bohemian homeland.
Returning as a guest artist, Soprano Brenda Kinsella will be performing songs by Mozart: the countess’s arias from The Marriage of Figaro, “Dove sono i bei momenti” (Where are the lovely moments?) and the sacred motet, “Exsultate, jubilate”
